My name is Jake Scott, I'm a radiation oncologist who specializes in the treatment of patients with sarcoma, a rare cancer originating in the connective tissue of the body (muscles, fat, bone etc). I'm also a scientist - because while we do a great job taking care of patients now, we still have lots of work left to find cures. When I'm in my laboratory, I spend most of my time thinking about why our current therapies don't work, or - for those therapies that do work - I think about why they stop working. Unlike most scientists studying cancer biology, I focus on building mathematical models to help understand the answers to these questions.
We all work hard in the clinics, to deliver the best care we can. But, the reality is that we are ultimately limited by our understanding. That is what this ride is all about - trying to raise awareness (and yes, money) to help us push our understanding of cancer further - so that we can effect better treatments, and eventually cures.
Please consider making a donation, even if just a small one, to help us reach this goal.
How far will you go for the cure? The bottom line is that cancer research leads to new treatments and more cures. This is what VeloSano is all about. It’s a bike ride but more importantly it’s a fundraiser. What makes VeloSano unique is that every dollar I raise is applied to cancer research at Cleveland Clinic.
By donating to me and VeloSano, you will help me meet my fundraising goal and together we will make a significant impact improving cancer outcomes through innovative research.
