The Greatest Gift Ever:
Often people associate cancer treatment with chemo, radiation and surgery. In our case the doctors at the Cleveland Clinic looked beyond the disease and into the future. When our son Aaron was diagnosed with type ALL Leukemia, naturally the Cleveland Clinic focused on his treatment, but the doctors also paid attention to future of his family. Prior to his intensive cancer treatment which included high dose chemo, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant, at age 20, Aaron's sperm was banked and stored at the Cleveland Clinic. He wasn't even married but the future of his family was in clear focus at the CCF. Fast forward 12 years- Aaron beat his cancer, graduated from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine, became a cancer doctor, got married to his beautiful wife Aly, and now for the really good part - they had a baby girl - Lilah Bea! Lilah is happy, healthy, brilliant, energetic, and wonderful. In a roundabout way, I have a granddaughter because of the Cleveland Clinic! It's the greatest gift ever!!!!!
I am dedicating my ride this year for Lilah and for the doctors and facilities at the Cleveland Clinic that preserved the hopes and dreams of an expanding family on ice so that I could become a grandma.
