I’m getting ready to ride in VeloSano 5 – and it’s my fifth year doing this ride. Like many people, this ride is personal for me. Last year, I rode for my friend’s spouse. This year, I don’t have to! Not only was his treatment successful, but his wife is riding for him this year on my team!
It’s nice that there are more stories of hope and good news each year. It’s also a reminder that the battle against cancer is being won, thanks in part to research, which 100% of all VeloSano donations supports.
Sadly, it’s also still a battle, and the battle has casualties. Each year, I ride for someone affected. This year, it’s my friend Claire. She has been in remission twice before, in July 2016 and September 2017, but in March this year she learned the awful news that her cancer has spread again. It’s a sobering reminder that cancer is a sophisticated and challenging disease. The fight is far from over, and your support could be a life-or-death matter.
Claire isn’t close to conceding and I’m honored to be a small part of her fight. I may just be riding my bike, but every dollar I raise supports the world’s most advanced cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic. That research has already produced breakthroughs thanks to the millions of dollars donated in prior years. Together, we’re making a difference for Claire and all the millions of individuals touched by this killer. Together, we’re finding a cure.
Claire’s diagnosis is cruel but her spirit is inspiring. She was told that her long-term survival odds were poor—about 5%. Her response was, “Alright. That’s going to be me. It has to be someone. It might as well be me. Welcome to the 5% Club!”
That’s making me want to climb on my bike right now! Please consider joining this fight and helping me reach my fundraising goal with a fully tax-deductible gift dedicated to saving lives. I appreciate your support.
