I have ridden in Velo Sano for the last two years as cancer research has always been important to me. As a young man I volunteered as a camp counselor for children with a variety of different cancers and saw the devastating effects this terrible disease has on a person.
Once I heard about Velo Sano I quickly realized this was my opportunity to give back and do something by blending my passion for cycling and my desire to help improve the lives of people effected with cancer by promoting research. Over the past two years I have helped raise funds and ridden over 450 miles in honor of friends, associates and family members who either fight or have fallen due to cancer.
Unfortunately the ever increasing need for cancer research became even more personal with my own diagnosis in December of 2017. Needless to say it's been a rough start to 2018 having already endured radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. I began my second round of chemotherapy mid May for an additional 18 weeks. I can say first hand that treatments have come a long way but there is plenty of room for improvements. Regardless, I am bound and determined to raise as much as possible to increase the odds of more tomorrows, instill hope and improve treatments and cures through cancer research.
EVERY dollar I raise is applied to CANcer research and this can quite literally benefit EVERYONE. It will likely be a game time decision as to how far, if at all, I can ride. However, I sure as hell am going to try my best.
